tylerdouglasporter.com

So I won't be writing in here anymore. I went and got myself a new website, in which I will be updating a bunch. I'm gonna try to post something at least once a day, so it will keep things interesting. So long blogger, we had a nice run... but it's time for me to move on! haha.

tylerdouglasporter.com is the new website. so go check it out.

hello all my faithful followers (although I believe my mother is probably the only one who really reads this). So hello mother :) ha.

Nothing too exciting has happened since my last post. We started 2 new classes, Post Production and Producing. They have been good so far. Although I think I have an extreme case of senioritis and have to motivate myself each and everyday to go to class. I'm so stoked to be done! Only 7 more weeks-ish. How crazy is that?!

I am sick today, and that's a big reason as to why I'm writing in this haha. I've been sick over the past 3 days, and hopefully I start feeling better soon. I had a 4 day weekend because of Labor Day, and so far 2 of those days have consisted of me laying in bed all day. So hopefully tomorrow that can change... *fingers crossed*

My parents get to go to the US Open in New York this weekend, which I am completely envious about I must add. I've been to one professional tennis match, Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray. That was a lot of fun, but it doesn't compare to going to the US Open. Although I would say my ultimate dream would be going to Wimbledon, that would be the best.

To my parents: have a wonderful time. I am jealous. Enjoy your much needed vacation. Love, your much jealous son.

Well that's all I really have to say for now. So long for now.
loves.

make way for the positive day!

Sorry it has been so long since I have updated this! I've had a pretty hectic month, and not really a whole lot of time to update this thing. So forgive me!

Anyways, we finished shooting our 35mm project, and it went really well. I think we are going to end up with a great final product, when all is said and done. So that's pretty exciting! The shoot was a lot of fun. I can't believe that was our final project! so crazy! Time goes by way too quickly! Only 2 more months left until we graduate. Kind of a scary thought really! I can't believe how close that is. I will be the first person on either side of the family to get a bachelor's degree ha! I find that pretty funny.

I've been busy with a few other projects lately. One of them is organizing another Invisible Children screening, which is happening at the end of September. I put together a screening last October, which was very successful. So I'm hoping to get more people out to this one, and raise even more money than we did last year. I think it is definitely possible. I'm going to advertise a lot more than I did last year. So that will definitely help. The other couple projects will remain secret for now. Let's just say one of them is a great opportunity which I was given. However, it's not a for sure thing yet so I will keep it a secret until things become definite. And the other project remains a secret, because it has to be a surprise for someone. So obviously I must keep things silent. So don't hate me!

I've been playing a lot of guitar lately, and wrote a couple new songs even. That has been a lot of fun. I love the guitar. I wish I could afford a Taylor or Martin... however the cheapest ones will run you about $600. They aren't cheap, but definitely worth it. Hopefully one day I can afford one!

So with my schooling coming to an end, I have quite the journey ahead of me in life. It's pretty weird to think about! When I get home I'll be turning in my papers, and going on a mission for my church. I'll be gone for ANOTHER 2 years! I hope to go foreign. But I guess God will put me wherever I'm supposed to go. Who knows. So I'll probably just work for my dad for a few months before I leave. I might try to get another job on top of that, we will see. I need to save up as much as possible. Then when I get home I hope to get a job with Invisible Children or Toms Shoes. If not, I'll figure something out. Either way, my "job" is going to consist of helping people in need. I can't really see myself doing anything else. I'm going to use my skills I have learned at school, to help spread a positive message around the world. And to promote peace. I have even considered joining the Peace Corps? But that would require me to leave ANOTHER 2 years! haha. So I don't know about that yet. Who knows what will happen, all I know is I'm excited. I just can't see myself working in an office 40 hours a week. Totally not me. There's so many more important things in life than getting a steady pay check. I wish we didn't have to be so dependent on money in life. Unfortunately I have to find a somewhat steady source of income so I can pay off my school debts. Otherwise, I would probably just move to Africa and work in an orphanage or something. Maybe I will be able to find a place like that where I can make just enough income to pay off loans, and survive. That would be nice. I don't really like to plan my future out too much, I just want to live it day by day and enjoy things. Rather than stress about things we don't have a lot of control over, like a lot of people do. Just enjoy life while you can.

Which brings me to another point. I have noticed lately, more than ever, how some people have such negative attitudes all the time. It's pretty sad. A lot of people surrounding me are always so negative, and don't just enjoy this amazing life given to us. Some people just need to relax, and have fun. What a boring life it would be to just hate everything that surrounds us. As the great Bob Marley once said:

"You just can't live in that negative way... make way for the positive day!"

Well said Mr. Marley. More people need to live this way! Enjoy life! Trust me, it's a lot more fun.

So this weekend I'm going to two shows. One of them one of my teachers gave me a free ticket for. I forgot the name of the bands playing. I guess it's like a reggae/ska/rock kind of band. She said a 311 and Sublime mix. So it might be pretty good? If not, oh well it was free. And then on Sunday I'm going to see The Scene Aesthetic, which I'm super excited for. I've been wanting to see them play for a long time now. And before the show I get to chill with them. So that will be cool. It should be a pretty fun weekend!

Well that's all I have for now. So see you on the flip side! Live to love. Pace e amore.

It has been forever!

So sorry it has been so long since I have written in here my many followers. I have been slacking! So I have was home for the whole month of June! It was sooo nice! I loved it. I was so not ready to come back to Florida. We had a good time, and it was nice seeing friends I haven't seen in a long time. It's crazy how people all go there different ways after high school. 3 1/2 months left of school! I can't believe it! I will be getting my Bachelor's! AHHH! I don't want to grow up! :(

So other than that, nothing all that special has been going on. I've been playing a lot of music lately. I have developed such a passion for music, even more so than when I came down here. Music is such an amazing thing. Film and music are definitely two of my biggest passions. And I hope to be able to use those passions for a good cause one day. Well, goodbye my faithful followers. I will try to update you a little more often!

4 Days!

You might wonder what 4 days is all about? Well 4 days until I get to fly to Oregon and see the fam. So I'm pretty stoked about that. Nothing too exciting has happened since I last wrote. I finished both my Post Production and Career Communications classes... so it's nice to be done with that. I'm helping some friends on a shoot tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. I'm just a grip on it, so I will just be helping wherever necessary.

So I was reading in the news today how a late term abortion doctor was shot and killed in his church. Now I don't condone abortion by any means, however don't you think this is a bit ridiculous? Where is the logic in killing someone because you believe he is killing innocent children? There is no logic. You are performing the same act you are supposedly against by doing this? What a twisted world we live in.

On a better note, me and a couple friends (Andrew, and Brian) have been going around a lot lately and photographing a lot of different things. Its been a blast, and I've really been enjoying it. Film is so much more fun than digital, and much more exciting in my opinion. Here's a couple pics I've taken so far, enjoy!

lions, tigers, and bears, OH MY!

So it's been a while since I've wrote on here....

Nothing too exciting has been going on lately. Just busy with school, and been enjoying an easy month of classes. It's been raining constantly over the past week, which has been not so exciting. It was cool the first couple days, then it starts to get really old. Especially when you want to go outside and do stuff i.e. basketball, tennis, longboarding, etc. We finally have some sunshine now though, which is nice after the week of darkness. I got myself a new film camera, and guitar. Both of which are pretty exciting. Except the fact my guitar came with a broken string... which is not that cool. The Nuggets are tied with the Lakers right now at 2-2. So let's hope they can win the series, and head to their first NBA Finals! Also, the French Open started on Sunday and it's kind of a bummer I can't be watching it.

Well I fly into Portland next Thursday (a week and 2 days) and I'm looking forward to that. Spend a few days there and see some of the fam I haven't seen in a while. Then we will drive back to Idaho where I will be spending the month of June while I'm in my online classes. This will be the longest period of being home since I moved to Florida last January. So that will be nice to have some time to spend with the fam/friends. That's all I have for now. Peace out!

What UP!

Alright, so I've been computer-less for a little over 3 weeks now... pretty lame! I dropped water on it while in the Virgin Islands (not reccommended!) and that's my excuse for not writing for so long. I went to the Virgin Islands from April 11-20 to see my friend Austin and enjoy a week on the beautiful island. To be honest, it was probably the best week of my life. I've never seen such beauty before. The water was so crystal clear, it didn't even seem real! I went snorkeling a few times, and saw a couple Caribbean Reef Sharks, some sting rays, all sorts of crazy fish, and we even rode some sea turtles (which is illegal btw, but sue us). We went on a private charter to the British Virgin Islands, and went to an amazing place on Virgin Gorda called The Baths. It was breathtaking to say the least. We also spent some time in a place called Jost van Dyke, and it was also very beautiful. As you can tell, we had way too much fun... and I was not ready to come back to Florida.

But I'm back in Florida now. We shot our 16mm project a few weeks ago which I was AD (assistant director) on. It was very stressful, and so much fun. I'm glad it's over now though. We are now in two new classes which are Editing, and Career Communications. Editing is ok, because we get to edit our 16mm projects... but the lectures are extremely boring. And Career Communications is a complete joke, so no need to even talk about that waste of time.

I come home next month, which I am very excited for. I have a couple of online classes that month, and since they are online there is really no need for me to stay here in Florida. So I will enjoy the month back at home. I also graduate here in about 6 months, which I am really looking forward to! That's really all I got for now... I'll keep you posted.

past due...

So nothing too big or exciting has happened since I last wrote. However, Monty no longer has mites- those little buggers aren't fun to freakin get rid of. I spent countless hours getting rid of them, and am relieved they are finally gone. He also ate tonight, so that was pretty cool! I've been super busy with our production coming up next month, and have had numerous meetings and hours of paperwork that I've already done. And it's nowhere near over! I'm actually quite enjoying it though. I'm really looking forward to spring break! I am really needing a week break from the craziness. And no to mention the fact that I'm going to the caribbean doesn't really suck :) my friend Austin is living down there right now, so I'm gonna go stay with him for a week and we will cause all sorts of trouble. LOL. We plan on going kiteboarding, going to the British virgin islands... stuff of that sort. It will be quite the experience.

Just so you know... my snake is staring at me at the moment as if he wants to eat me next. It's quite hilarious. He stares at me quite often when I'm laying on my bed, sometimes he does this weird thing when he moves his head from side to side while staring at me. He's a weird little dude.

Well that's really all that is happening as of right now... just been enjoying the beautiful 80 degree weather lately, and loving this spring time! We are heading out to Cocoa on Saturday, so that will be a good time as always. PEACE!

Lame

So I just found out today that Monty has Mites. And that really sucks.... I hear they are a pain in the butt to get rid of. So pretty much my much needed day off tomorrow will consist of getting rid of mites. Gotta love it!

Cheers to 2 months of craziness!

So yesterday we found out our positions for our 16mm shoot coming up next month. We had to apply for these positions and then the teachers picked from the portfolios who they thought would best fit the job. I applied for First Assistant Director as my first choice- sound mixer as second- and boom operator as third. But ultimately I wanted First Assistant Director and I just applied for the other 2 because they made us apply for 3 jobs. It was a lot of working getting the portfolios together, and my position required lots and lots of paperwork. But it paid off, and I was chosen as the 1st AD. I was pretty happy about that, even though it wasn't the script I wanted to work out. They split our class up and half of us work on one script and the other half works on another. They put me on the script I didn't really want, but that's alright. Gotta make the best of it! So now I'm going to be super busy in the next couple of months. I have lots of work before and during the shoot to do. The main part of my job consists of scheduling out the three 12 hour shooting days, making sure the rest of the crew are getting their stuff ready before the shoot, and a bunch of another paperwork. On the shoot I'm in charge of the crew and making sure everything is running smoothly because the director is supposed to only concentrate on the talent so I have to be in charge of everything else. So hopefully everything goes well, I'm pretty excited! That's all for now!
